  • February 23  1-3 PM  - Grades N-6
    • Maple Sugaring

Late February when the days are sunny and the nights are cold is the time to watch the sugar maples. When little icicles appear at the tips of their branches, the sap has begun to flow. This is the time to collect sap for the sugaring process. Join the SMLI staff as we teach you how to make maple syrup.

Fee: Members - $15 per child with parent, $5 each additional person.
         Non-Members - $20 per child with parent, $7 each additional person.

 
  • March 23 1-3 PM  -Grades N-6
    • Annual Egg-Stravaganza

Come and welcome in the spring season at the Science Museum. Meet live animals, enter our egg-drop challenge, color eggs using natural dyes, make a take home craft, and search for prizes in the great egg hunt.

Fee: Members $15 per child with parent $5 each additional person.
        Non-Members $20 per child with parent, $7 each additional person.
Note:
Please bring one raw egg and three hard boiled eggs per child

  • April 27  1-3 PM  -Grades N-6
    • Science Palooza

Join us for a festival celebrating how much fun science can be. Our staff will guide you through experiments and demonstrations with bubbles, slime, and racecars. Be prepared for a scientific good time.

Fee: Members $15 per child with parent, $5 each additional person.
        Non-Members-$20 per child with parent, $7 each additional per person
.Note: There is a materials fee of $2 per child

  • May 25 1-3 PM - Grades N-6
    • Butterflies

      Join the staff of SMLI as we learn about an amazing insect: butterflies. Learn what they eat, where they live, and how they change from a caterpillar into on of nature's treasures. Discover how to attract butterflies to your yard and keep them there. Hunt for specimens to examine and take home your own butterfly to grow and release in your garden.

Fee: Members $15 per child with parent, $5 each additional person.
        Non-Members-$20 per child with parent, $7 each additional per person.
Note: There is a materials fee of $5 per family.

  • June 8 Ages 6 & up
    • Family Cruise: Science at Sea

      Join the Science Museum of Long Island for an exciting day cruising the Long Island waters. Maritime specialists and scientists will guide you through activities and discussions about this important estuary. Participants will have the opportunity to collect and identify marine organisms, including plankton, shellfish, and finfish.

Fee: $15 for children, $25 for adults
