All evening meetings are on the 3rd Tuesday of the month at the Friends' Meeting House, Ordnance Road, Southampton, starting at 7:30 pm.

January

Tuesday 19th January 1999: SMFS Annual General Meeting. Best find of 1998 competition. Prizes for the best fossil, mineral and micromount found or prepared in 1998. Snacks and drinks after.

February

Tuesday 16th February 1999: Annual photographic competition. Prizes for best slide and print in different categories.
Sunday 28th February 1999: Trip to Highcliffe & Barton-on-Sea. Eocene fossil collecting

March

Saturday 13th March 1999: Microscope Day at Dorchester Museum.
Tuesday 16th March 1999: Practical Evening. Computer software for mineral and fossil collectors.

April

Saturday 10th April 1999: Field trip to Writhlington Geological Nature Reserve. Both fossil and mineral collecting.
Tuesday 20th April 1999: Small Bodies of the Solar System. Talk by Jerry Workman.

May

Sunday 2nd May 1999: Field trip to Gosport Museum.
Saturday 15th May 1999: Field trip to Colemans Quarry, Nr. Frome.
Tuesday 18th May 1999: Fossils of the Kimmeridge Beds. Talk by well known collector Steve Etches

June

Tuesday 15th June 1999: Sri Lanka and the Gulf Emirates. Illustrated talk by Anne Fereday.
Saturday 26th June 1999: Visit to Haslemere Museum. Links with famous Scottish geologist Archibald Geikie.

July

Sat. 3rd - Sun. 4th July 1999: Southampton Balloon & Flower Festival. Society display.
Tuesday 20th July 1999: Practical evening. Identification and techniques. Childrens Identification Quiz.
Friday 30th July - Sunday 1st August 1999: Field Trip to the Teign Valley, Devon.

August

Saturday 14th August 1999: Dorset G.A. Mineral & Fossil Fair, Wimborne. Society display.
Tuesday 18th August 1999: Swap & Sale Evening. Bring along any specimens for sale, swap or even give away.

September

Tuesday 21st September 1999: Mineral Exploration by Remote Sensing. Talk by Kathy Bowden.
Saturday 25th September 1999: The 10th Southampton Mineral & Fossil Fair. A day not to be missed. Further details on the Fair.

October

Friday 1st - Monday 4th October 1999: Field trip to North Yorkshire. Suitable for both mineral & fossil collectors.
Tuesday 19th October 1999: Dinosaur Isle - It's Future. Talk by Martin Munt, Assistant Curator, Isle of Wight Museum of Geology. The new museum for the island.

November

Saturday 6th November 1999: The Federation of Lapidary & Geological Societies (FLAGS) Exhibition and G.A. Reunion, University College, London. Society display.
Tuesday 16th November 1999: T.B.A.
Saturday 20th November 1999: Sussex Mineral Show, Clair Hall, Haywards Heath, West Sussex.

December

Society Christmas Dinner. TBA.
Tuesday 21st December 1999: Quiz Night. Fun geological quiz for everyone. Prizes for the winning team.
