Previous South Coast Minerals No.2
Pyrite nodule, Climping Beach, near Littlehampton, West Sussex.
These fine, brassy-yellow pyrite nodules derive from the chalk underlying the beach and are gradually exposed by the sea. The best nodules are found in the chalky mud where the higher pH appears to prevent attack by the sea water and preserves them. Very large nodules may be found of many shapes and many are attached to flint as this one is. Unfortunately they may be prone to decomposition and hence need storing in dry conditions to preserve them in good condition. Field of view 100mm.
