G&R Cybermedia Group is the business name under which Stephen Groll markets the software, teaching materials, and products he creates. Stephen is an ordained Baptist minister. He is a graduate of Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary. He has worked in California churches for 30 years and is presently serving as children's pastor at the First Southern Baptist Church at 1111 Vista Chino, in Palm Springs, CA.
Though Pastor Steve (as his kids call him, or sometimes they call him Pester Sleeve) has served as a full time pastor for almost 20 years, he has always had a special calling and love of working with children. He has served as pastor and children's speaker at many summer camps, guest speaker at children retreats, and has even led children revivals.
Realizing the power of creative methods to communicate the principles of God, Steve uses puppets, gospel magic, story telling, object lessons, adventure lessons, chalk talks, crafts, games, etc. in his teaching ministry.
As early as 1983 he realized the power of the computer as an educational tool. Though his first computer program published in an international computer magazine was a simple arcade type game, his second and fourth programs to be published were educational games. Steve eventually wrote Pencil and Paper Activity Maker (a much more ambitious project) to create teaching puzzles and activities for use with kids in his church. He decided to market the software himself and make it available to other educators including public school teachers. The program has sold all over the world including places like Ethiopia, Ukraine, Australia, and Peru.
Seeking other ways to share what he has learned and developed over the years of working with children, he put together a computerized book of his favorite object lessons in a work called Visual Illustrations. This work, along with other educational and helpful software programs, has been published over the Internet and is used by children’s workers, youth workers, school teachers, and families in many different countries.
Lest anyone think that G&R Cybermedia Group is a wealthy concern, let it be known that it has never made a profit. Though this is not a nonprofit business, it is, however, a business that has never made a profit. The software is priced so low and the market is so specialized that there may never be enough volume to generate profit.
Why continue? Well, because there is a need. Those who have used the materials have had good results. Many of those who have used the materials of G&R Cybermedia Group have communicated their appreciation and the value of the materials in their ministries and work. That means that there is value in the work even if there is no financial profit. The profit is in the blessings of being a part of doing good and doing something that makes a difference.
