Background
RFC is a small, independent business specialising in TQM training and consultancy. Established in Scotland in 1992 it has an extensive manufacturing and service industry background. Although clients to date have included large, global-based companies, a specialist area has been the introduction of TQM methodology to the small business and voluntary sectors.

Early Career

His early career commenced in textile research with Courtaulds Limited and included fibre, yarn, fabric and garment technology. He had become sectional leader by the age of 22, followed by a rapid rise in line management positions with Exquisite Fabrics, a subsidiary company of the Courtaulds Group. These included Quality, Production Control and factory production responsibilities. During this time he was involved in the formulation of test methods and the design of testing instruments for fabric performance which are still in current world-wide use. At the age of 29 he was transferred to the Group’s Head Office in London and was responsible for the Quality and Customer service of the largest knitting company in Europe with 12 factories in the UK, USA and Canada. As a Group Quality Manager Roger played a prominent role in the development of quality and was constantly involved in customer liaison.

National Industrial Relations

He left Courtaulds in 1979 to take up the position of Managing/Production Director of a fabric dyeing and finishing company in Leicester and within two years had been elected by other chief executives as Vice Chairman of the Employers Federation Industrial Relations Committee and subsequently became responsible for trade union negotiations at national level.

The Scottish Connection

At the instigation of Marks and Spencer, Roger moved to Scotland in 1982 to take a position with a leading garment manufacturer with responsibility for Quality Assurance, fabric sourcing and development and control of external garment processing.
He subsequently went on to set up a garment dyeing business in Glasgow.
As a Chartered Associate of the Textile Institute (C.Text., A.T.I.), Roger is a licensed Consultant and has been independently involved in the wider field of TQM since 1991.

Roger is a very experienced senior manager with many years in the textile industry and is an Associate of the Textile Institute.
He established RFC nearly 9 years ago and has been particularly successful in the training of the tools and techniques of TQM. During this time he has been the Secretary of the Fife and Tayside Quality Forum and the Chairman of the Scottish Training Officers’ Association (‘STOA’).
He currently sits on a number of Committees, and Chairs the BSI Panel investigating the labelling of garments for Sun Protection. He also represents the UK at the corresponding EU Committee in Brussels. He is also a member of MENSA, enjoys devising quizzes and has considerable public speaking experience. His ‘performances’ also extend to the stage by way of the Dunfermline Gilbert & Sullivan Society and Dollar Drama Club.
