Free Sc1 Mark Calculators

The Sc1 criteria make choosing the best combination of marks difficult. These free programs make it easy.

Sc1 Mark Calculator v2.1 (for May 2003 Coursework onwards) rele

Note: this updated version ( 26 April 2005) of the double science calculator fixes a bug that caused the program to not select the best combination of marks in a limited number of cases. Please update older versions.

Choosing the best marks for GCSE coursework has just got a lot harder. At least, if you do it by hand. Here are files for Excel 2000 or Excel XP to do the job for you (they will NOT work on previous versions of Excel).

Each Excel file is designed to store and calculate marks for a class (up to 40 pupils) - simply make copies of the file with different names for different classes.  When you load them, ensure that you 'Enable macros' in Excel.

Downloads (130 kB each):
'Sc1doub21b.xls' (for double science)
   (updated version)

'Sc1sing20b.xls' (for single science & separate subjects)

Both files had been available for some time before any problems appeared, and there may still be further bugs -  you should ensure that you have a backup copy of all your data before you run the routines. And check yourself that the mark selections make sense.

Note: the program can seem slow - it's due to the HUGE number of calculations to test all possible combinations.

Please contact me if you find any problems, so that I can iron out bugs.
