The Tar Analyzer TA120-3 is designed for quasi-continuous online measurements of condensable aromatic hydrocarbons, called tars. The major applicationof this instrument is to optimize the quality of the raw gas from biomass gasification. This analyzer with its quantification method features several improvements regarding conventional methods and establishes a new technique in respect to the wet-chemical measurement procedures. The benefit of quasi online measurements of tars allows a fast response to optimize the process parameters.

Basic Functions:

Hot sample gas is sucked-in by the use of heated Venturi nozzles and purified from fine particles and loaded into three sample loops of the analyzer. The content of this three loops are flushed in sequences by the carrier gas into the Flame Ionization Detector (FID) for combustion and hydrocarbon measurement. Thereby, the first sample loop is flushed through a tar filter, the second through an aromatic filter and the third sample loop content reaches the FID unaltered. The concentrations of tars, aromatics and total hydrocarbons are then calculated, stored and displayed. The pressure, flow and intensifier parameters of the FID are justified by the TA120-3. Control of the analyzer can be done optional on the TA120-3 or by the TA120-3 DataAquisition software from the remote PC/Laptop.
