  1. All swine are to be penned on Friday, July 25, between 12 noon and 10 P.M. Judging will start on SATURDAY, in the order of classes as listed below, except for showmanship which will be the first at 10 A.M. SHARP.
  2. Entries limited to two (2) swine per farm per class.
  3. Entries close Saturday, July 19, 1997.
  4. Persons under 18 (as of Jan. 1, 1997) will show in Youth Classes only and must specify birthday on entry form. NO YOUTH ARE TO SHOW IN ADULT CLASSES. Please make entries early. Pens will be assigned on a first come basis. Entries will close when pens are full.
  5. In addition to $4.00 entry fee per exhibitor, see GENERAL RULES, $0.50 per hog (excluding nursing piglets) must be sent with the entry to Nancy Rebehn, 30 Bantam Terrace, Bantam, CT 06750. Make check payable to: CONNECTICUT AGRICULTURAL FAIR.
  6. All swine 3 months of age and older must be negative to Brucella and pseudorabies tests within 30 days of first Connecticut show date. Barrows are' exempt from Brucella testing.
  7. All purchased and interstate swine over three months old must have health charts and be tested for Brucellosis and Pseudo-Rabies within thirty days.
  8. DIRTY, SICK or UNRULY swine will not be permitted to compete and will be sent home at the superintendents discretion.
  9. Exhibitors are responsible for feeding, watering, and keeping pens and alleyways clean and neat.
  10. Bedding will be provided.
  11. All recognized breeds will be shown separately in breed classes. To be shown in a breed class, animal must be registered or eligible for registry under the particular breed association rules. Crossbred swine (mixed or unknown breeds) may not enter Purebred classes. Feeder, market, and showmanship classes may consist of any breed and mixed -breeds. Specify breed on entry form.
  12. Owner or farm representative MUST BE PRESENT at time of judging for animals to be judged. Each hog must have an individual show person when in the showing.
  13. All animals will be assigned a number and must be entered in the superintendent's book by that number.
  14. Class entries and show schedule will be posted and no changes will be made within one-half hour of show time.
  15. Hogs which have been entered in a breeding class MAY NOT enter a market class.
  16. NO BOARS allowed in a showmanship or market class. Entry of boars in group classes will be left to the. discretion of the judges.
  17. Any issue not covered by above state rules and guidelines will be left to the discretion of show management.

The following classes have been set as the standard and endorsed by the CONNECTICUT SWINE GROWERS ASSOCIATION as the kinds of classes on the 1989 Swine Show Circuit.

1997 Swine Show Classes

(Adult & Youth will be judged separately)

These prizes to be awarded to all categories EXCEPT 6G.

Adult Classes

1 Boar 3 to 6 months

2A Gilt 3 months to 6 months

2B Gilt 6 months to 1year

3 Gilt or sow I to 2 years

4A Pee4er pig up to 75 pounds

4B Light weight market hog 76-150 pounds

4C. Market hog 151-260 Pounds

5 Hog Farm Display - Based on neatness, attractiveness, quality, & content of educational and premotional signage,

6 Open Fitting & Showmanship

7. Senior Showmanship (over age 62)

Open Group Class

Adults and youth compete together. All breeds and crossbreeds compete together. Adults & Youth cannot combine animals for classes. Animlas entered must be owned by one exhibitor.

1G Best Three Females - any age, all bred and currently owned by one exhibitor

2G Pen of three feeder and/or market hogs owned by one exhibitor. Hogs from breeding classes not allowed

3G Get of Sire - to consist of three hogs - from different litters -sired by one boar, owned by one exhibitor

4G Produce of Dam - to consist of three hogs from different litters, any age, either sex, which are the offspring of the same sow.

5G Outstanding Swine Herd - to consist of four hogs - one boar, two gilts, and one market hog owned by one exhibitor

6G Sow and litter - min. 8 piglets
