Connecticut Agricultural Fair Classification Rules

• MAJOR FAIRS are sponsored by Agricultural Societies or Service Organizations. These are also the larger outdoor type of all day Fair and most are open in the evenings. They MUST be of at least two days duration. They MUST have the following exhibits for the duration of the Fair:

1. Livestock - Min. 25 head each: 
    A. Beef and/or Dairy
    B. Sheep, Goats and/or Swine
2. Poultry - 100 Cages ( Rabbits and small animals may be included. )
3. Home Arts
4. Booth Exhibits
5. Flowers
6. Fruits and Vegatables
7. Hobbies
8. Junior Divisions or Departments
9. Commercial Exhibits
10. Entertainment
11. Large Midway
12. Pony, Horse, or Oxen Drawing
13. Food available
14. Photography
15. Educational Exhibits
16. Farm, Home Gardening or Lawn Machinery

• DISTRICT FAIRS are sponsored by Granges, Agricultural Societies or Service Organizations. These are the average size fair and MUST be at least two days duration. They MUST have the following exhibits for the duration of the Fair:

1. Livestock
    A. Beef and/or Dairy
    B. Sheep, Goats, and/or Swine
2. Poultry - 25 to 50 Cages ( Rabbits and small animals may be included )
3. Home Arts
4. Booth Exhibits
5. Flowers
6. Fruits and Vegatables
7. Hobbies
8. Junior Divisions or Departments
9. Entertainment
10. Commercial Exhibits ( optional )
11. Midway ( if possible )
12. Food Available
13. Photography ( optional )
14. Educational Exhibits
15. Farm, Home Gardening or Lawn Machinery ( optional )

• ASSOCIATE FAIRS are generally new fairs which have not been evaluated.

• 4-H FAIRS are run by the 4-H members and competitions are open only for 4-H members. Attendance is open to the public. They have the following types of exhibits:

1. Livestock
2. Home Arts
3. Flowers
4. Fruits and Vegatables
5. Contests
6. Demonstrations
7. Entertainment
8. Educational Exhibits

• LOCAL FAIRS are sponsored by Granges, Agricultural Societies or Service Organizations. They are usually heldindoors for a one day duration. They Must have the following exhibits:

1. Home Arts
2. Flowers
3. Fruits and Vegatables
4. Food Available
5. Entertainment
6. Educational Exhibits
7. Livestock (Optional)
