Holy Island from Porth Trecastell
A journey across an open bay followed by wonderful cliff pottering, a typical Anglesey paddle. Hot still weather made this a very memorable trip.

Good parking and an easy beach makes Porth Trecastell (GR333707) a good access point for a paddle. From the beach we paddled out for about a mile to catch the best of the tidal flow. Before turning NW, look at the skyline either side of the beach. The beach can be difficult to locate on the return. Continued NW towards Rhoscolyn Beacon (GR264743). Passing Cymyran Bay gave a real impression of being out at sea. Once Holy Island is reached then the cliffs offer a variety of caves and gullies to explore, tiny islands to circumnavigate and the well photographed arch to paddle through.
The flow around Maen-y-fran provided gentle play. We lunched at Porth Diana and returned the way we came.
That day the sea and wind were very calm. When we stopped paddling, complete silence. Occasionally the crisp sound of a distant bird or boat motor. Very refreshing from city living. Inspection of the cliff and the sound of the maroons later that afternoon reminded us that this part of the coast was not always as inviting.
