CHESTER SEA KAYAKS

Sea Kayaking around the coast of North Wales and the North West of England offers a wide variety of challenges and experiences. With care, this can be enjoyed for about 10 months of the year. These pages capture the experience of myself and friends and are offered as a guide to provide experienced inland Kayakers with an idea of the journeying possibilities.

Be warned, the sea is NOT a big river, it has its own rewards and dangers. The clear recommendation is that you go well equipped with an experienced Level 3 Sea Coach. My own advice is to choose your companions with care. You are unlikely to be able to swim to the bank (shore), all rescues are deep water or worse, rescues while being lacerated by barnacles and rocks. A play spot with the difficulty of a grade 3 river can occur unexpectedly, an 'all-in' rescue on grade 3 water may be required! Other help is unlikely to arrive in time. Do not however expect all this on every occasion!

We journey in long composite sea kayaks, most of the journeys can be done in the longer play boats but no Spuds please! Take it easy as tides and wind can easily make the journey more tiring than expected. Take plenty to drink, the salt sea , air and sun can make you very thirsty.

Please find the opportunity to give it a try, the rewards are there and can be enjoyed safely.

A list of local Suppliers offering services and equipment in included and also a list of other Reference material. Suggestions for Winter Training are listed. Before setting out on a sea journey always get the latest weather forecast.

the list below is a list of suggested journeys in order of possible tide times. The times given being relative to High Water at Liverpool Bar (HWLB). Items marked * may be taken at a range of tide times.
