Here you will find information about penguins that can be seen in South Africa
Species Where they can be seen How to get there
African There are three colonies on the mainland of South Africa as well as several on offshore Islands. The off shore colonies are inaccessible without permit. The colony at Boulders is easy to reach and well worth the trip. Boulders Beach is about 2km south of Simonstown. Either drive or take the train from Cape Town to Simonstown and then walk (or take a taxi) south along the coast until you come to the footpath down to Boulders Beach. There is a guesthouse right by the car park so you could stay there and listen to the penguins all night!

The second mainland colony is harder to find, it is at Stony Point in Betty's Bay about 30km west of Cape Town - you will need to drive there.

There is a third, very small colony (only about 70-80 birds) at Lambert's Bay, about 300km north of Cape Town. It is worth a visit, however, to see the incredible gannet colony there. You would need to drive there.
