This page provides a description of each section of our penguin site. There are over 100 different pages as well as many photographs, maps, etc. So it is a good idea to look through this page first to see if you can find what you want.

As you browse through our site you will find an index on the left of the page - sometimes this will be the main index to the sections listed below, other times it will be a sub-index to the section you are browsing through.  The sub-indices all have a heading "Main" which will restore the main index in the frame.  If you get completely lost you can always click "Home" in the top left corner and you will be returned to the front page. 
The Penguins    Small photos and a brief description of each of the seventeen species of penguin.

Species Notes   Detailed notes on each species of penguin, including: distinguishing features of the species, data on the size and weight, notes on the breeding cycle as well as a map showing where each species can be found.

Breeding Behaviour   Data on the breeding behaviour of penguins. There is a separate page for each genus of penguin.

Threats   Data on endangered species of penguins and on the threats to the various populations of penguins in the wild.

Life Cycle of Penguins  A set of pages describing the life cycle of penguins from the egg to the end.

For Teachers  A few ideas for using penguins in the class room.

Where to see Penguins    Information on where you can go to see penguins. We have listed all the places we know of where you can see penguins both in captivity and in the wild.  We have also rated all the penguin exhibits we visit regularly.

Evolution of the penguins    Information on the types of fossil penguins and about the way in which modern penguins evolved from their flying ancestors.

Get involved with penguins   On these pages you will find out how you can become involved with penguins yourself.
