| Description: | DB 127 001-6, also known as "EuroSprinter" was build from Krauss-Maffei AG,
München and Siemens AG, Erlangen as demonstrator at the cost of it's own. It
is a successor of the Spain State Railway (RENFE) class S 252 for the high
speed line Madrid - Sevilla and the Portugal State Railway (CP) class LE 5600.
On August 6, 1993 the locomotive hit a speed of 310 km/h (193 mph) at a test
run between Würzburg and Fulda without any modification. This is a world
record for locomotives with three-phase current propulsion. Trains like the
ICE or TGV are considered as M.U.'s in Europe.
In 1995 the Deutsche Bahn AG (DB) ordered 195 freight locomotives, class 152, on the basis of the "EuroSprinter". Krauss-Maffei AG and Siemens AG will deliver 6 locomotives to the Greece State Railway (OSE) on the basis of the "EuroSprinter". Greece will start electrical operation in 1997 and the new locomotives will be the first with electrical propulsion. They will have a continuous power rating of 5000 KW and will be used both for fast freight trains and fast passanger trains with a high speed of 200 km/h.
The first of the new "HellasSprinter" (H 561 - H 566) left the workshops of Krauss-Maffei in summer 1997.
The new locomotives will now be tested at the Siemens-Prüfcenter in Wegberg-Wildenrath.
After delivery to Greece, they will be used on the line Idomeni - Thessaloniki. When the
electrification of the line Thessaloniki - Athens will be finished, they will be used there too.
