Welcome to my home page. My name is Peter Waddington, and I live in Kilcreggan,
near Glasgow.
-
I am a retired Naval Officer with years of sailing and sea command experience,
and for 22 seasons, completing in the winter of 2004, I ran a small Skippered
Yacht Charter business & Sailing School, trading under the name "Sinbad
Charters", in my 36 foot Westerly Medway yacht ZAMORA cruising one of the
finest sailing areas to be found anywhere - the beautiful West Coast
of Scotland. I have now retired, but continue to do a considerable
amount of private sailing for my own pleasure. To those of you who may have
found this site through an old link or search engine reference looking
for a charter, or a RYA recognised sailing course, I regret that
I cannot now help you, having ceased commercial operations. There is a
link at the end of the site, under "Contact Details" to the Association
of Scottish Yacht Charterers, whose members can give you the best in Scottish
bareboat or skippered charters, and RYA recognised sailing courses.
-
Those of you who have sailed with me before and would like to join me,
with perhaps a bit of tuition thrown in, please see the following pages,
beginning with "The Background and New Developments". My West of Scotland
sailing is "on hold" for the time being since, after a brief shakedown
on the Firth of Clyde, the 2008 season was spent sailing ZAMORA from Rhu
to Malta, and doing a bit of touring and late season cruising there in
September and early October. I propose to cruise in the Med during 2009
and position the yacht in the Algarve towards the end of that season, with
the aim of returning her to Scotland in 2010. However I expect, subject
to health, finances etc., to return to a full Scottish sailing programme
thereafter, so have left the bulk of my website unaltered for future reference.
Hopefully ZAMORA and I still have a number of sailing years ahead of us,
and as we have yet covered only a fraction of this vast cruising area,
we will then continue to explore the West Coast of Scotland on the more
extended cruises which I have been able to organise since retiring from
chartering.
-
In the meantime, I am looking for friends and ex customers who, for a share
of the food, fuel and berthing expenses while on board, would like to accompany
me in a slow return in 2009 from Malta to the Algarve, principally day
sailing around Sicily, Sardinia and down the East coast of Spain to Gibraltar
and Portugal, with a few longer (one to max three nights) intermediate
passages (Malta to Sicily, thence to Sardinia, Menorca and the mainland
coast of Spain). Please see the outline plan under "Current Programme".
This will be expanded as I receive an indication of my likely crew and
their preferred part of the cruise, joining and leaving dates etc.
