Mike's other interests.

Computing.

I have long been interested in computing since doing courses in 'basic' way back in the 70's. I also built the first computer we had at Kelly College, a Nascom 1 with 1k of memory! Big in those days.

When I had to take over the Information Technology department at Kelly, I developed a major interest in current developments and had to build, repair and set up a network using Gateway, and home built, machines. I also introduced and taught the Information Systems GCSE. Now that I am no longer there I miss this involvement in developmental work but try to keep up at home as resources allow. I use a home built P133.

Adventure Training.

For many years I have been involved in adventure training at Kelly College and at one time ran the yearly Easter camp. We usually trained in the Lakes, North Wales or the Brecon Beacons.

I also used to help with the sub aqua club that we ran at Kelly College. We took a group of pupils each year to the South of France for two weeks of diving.

I still enjoy walking on Dartmoor and continue to help with the safety aspects of the Duke of Edinburgh's award scheme.

Travel.

I enjoy travelling and would love do do a lot more. Besides sailing to the Channel Islands, the Scilly Isles and to the French coast, I regularly go to France and Spain, and have also been to Switzerland and Austria. I would really love to go to Nepal and Tibet, India, the Holy Land where my Master lived, and to sail in the Greek and Turkish waters of the Med. Then there is N and S America, and Asia.... and so it goes on.

As I like Spain, I also enjoy Flemenco music.

The Theatre and Music.

I really enjoy going to the theatre. At last we are very lucky here in the SW of England that the Theatre Royal has opened in Plymouth, and then there is the Northcote in Exeter. In October and November 1997 I spent three enjoyable weeks seeing the Royal Shakespere company perform at the Theatre Royal. I am so pleased that they have decided to make Plymouth one of the major venues for their productions.

I also enjoy a wide rang of music from classical to jazz. I am at long last trying to teach myself to play an instrument. With my interests I decided to try the clarinet.

I also like ballet and dance, but it is so expensive to go to see it live.
