The fractal background was great fun to compose, and called for the use of a wide selection

of digital imaging tools. The image of the orchestra was scanned from a 35 mm slide. The selection

of the orchestra from the slide and the manipulation of the fractal patterns were time-consuming.

The fractals  were first created using the fractal generation program FRACTINT but then coloured

and  heavily  manipulated using commercial image manipulation programs.  The image  gets

criticised because the  fractal background dominates, but for me the background sets a mood for the  

music and is an important feature.   I'll perhaps do another image where the background is more muted.
