Enhanced CD Links and Information

Silva Screen Enhanced CDs are presented in Blue Book (Multisession) format. They can be played on standard audio CD players and most multimedia computers (Mac and PC). Your computer will need to be equipped with a multisession CD-ROM drive. Most Macintosh systems manufactured since 1994 and most Windows 95 systems will already be compatible. Note that some CD-ROM driver software needs multisession capability enabling - usually found in the "options" or "preferences" for the driver.

System requirements for accessing interactive data:

  • Macintosh system:
    • A Colour Macintosh system with a 68040 or later processor, or a Power Macintosh
    • 4 MB of available RAM
    • Double Speed Multisession CD-ROM drive (300kb/sec transfer rate) or faster
    • System software version 7.1 or later
    • QuickTime 2.1 or later software (included on CD)
    • AppleCD Player (included on CD)
  • Windows software-based system:
    • 486 DX2 66 or faster processor
    • 13" colour monitor/256 colours minimum
    • 8MB of RAM minimum
    • 16-bit, 44.1 kHz sound card
    • Mouse
    • Double Speed Multisession CD-ROM drive (300kb/sec transfer rate) or faster
    • Windows 3.1, 3.11, or Windows 95 software
    • QuickTime for Windows 2.0.3 or later software (included on CD)
    • AppleCD Player for Windows (included on CD)
  • This may not work on all CD-ROM drives.

The AppleCD Player

The AppleCD Player (both Macintosh and PC versions) included on the Warriors of the Silver Screen CD is a beta version. Updates for both Windows and Macintosh are now available - these latest versions are already included on Swashbucklers: Swordsmen of the Silver Screen and The Mark Of Zorro. The new Macintosh version (v1.0) is a full release, while the new Windows version is still a beta (beta 12 - we supplied beta 8 with Warriors of the Silver Screen) but is much improved and now comes with installers. Please note the bug alert below, however.

The following bug alert for the Windows beta 12 comes from the Premise AIMT Page:

Alert: There is a bug in the AppleCD Player for Windows.

The AppleCD Player for Windows relies on resources from both the 16-bit version of QuickTime for Windows (QTW) and the 32-bit version. These resources are not replaced by the installation of either version over the top of the other version. The solution is to install both.

Until Apple fixes this it is recommended to install QTW 16-bit AND QTW 32-bit.

Sadly, Apple have discontinued support for their multimedia authoring tools
(such as the Apple Media Tool), so this problem is unlikely to ever be solved.
