GENERIC SCI FI QUARRY

Mark Ayres with Scott Michell

I have been composing music for television and film since 1984. Credits include three scores for BBCtv's Doctor Who, the 1996 British feature film The Innocent Sleep, and music for other top-rated UK TV shows such as Casualty, Rockliffe's Babies and Top of the Pops.Scores for successful straight-to-video projects include Dreamwatch Media's Shakedown (which I also co-produced) and Bill Baggs's PRoBe series.

Multimedia projects include music for William Latham's acclaimed Computer Art films and CD-ROMs, and children's educational CD-ROMs.

Much of my work has been commercially released on compact disc.

I also work as an arranger and producer, and have contributed to over 100 CD releases, mostly for Silva Screen Records. For them I have arranged, produced or performed numerous recordings of film and TV themes, including pieces by Jerry Goldsmith, John Williams, James Horner, Hans Zimmer, Vangelis, Tangerine Dream, and many others. Releases include The Cult Files, Space and Beyond, Warriors of the Silver Screen (Enhanced CD), The Monster Movie Music Album, Music from the Films of Stanley Kubrick, Cinema Century, & A History of Horror.

In addition to the above, I work as a Sound Designer and restorer of archive sound recordings, and as a multimedia programmer (including Enhanced CDs for Silva Screen Records). I also produce talking books for BBC Worldwide and am librarian of the archive of the BBC Radiophonic Workshop, involved in an ongoing cataloguing and commercial release programme. All in all, I lead a varied life!

On the following pages you will find a biography, CV, discography, pages devoted to individual projects, information on Enhanced CDs and the software required to play them, and a page of contacts and links.
