Today we learned of the sudden passing of one of our more noted resident performers. It is with much sadness that we announce that PAUL BARNETSON died in hospital early Thursday morning. His sons, Andy and Rory, were with him at the end.
Paul was a strong contributor to the club, and the folk scene in general. He performed at, MC'd and supported many of our evenings and also came out to watch the Morris and other folk-club activities. Paul was a leading light in promoting the power of community singing, through his unstinting work with the Campfire Sings of the local Scouting movement. He brought a different aspect of our folk heritage to the club with his fine renditions of a wide range of material garnered from this environment. Victorian ballads and native American songs co-existed with the verbally dextrous tongue twisters and campfire chants that challenge children of all ages.Something different yet so familiar.
He will be much missed. Our deepest condolences go out to Liz and his family.
