My name is Marc Friedman, and I was born in the Bronx, (that's in New York City in case you didn't know), on Friday, January 28, 1966.
I attended a public elementary (P.S. 95), and junior high school (J.H.S. 143). I then took the entrance exam for the New York City "specialized high schools", and auditioned (in music) for The High School of Music and Art (I play the piano). I was accepted to both The Bronx High School of Science, and The High School of Music and Art. I chose to attend The Bronx High School of Science and did so from September 1979 until graduation in June 1983. This was followed immediately by entering Northeastern University (located in Boston, Massachusetts), in September 1983 and graduating with a B.S. degree (what else?) from The College of Computer Science with a Music minor in June 1988. Yes, it was a five year program!
I work at Beckman Coulter Inc. at the Laboratory Automation Operations division in Allendale, New Jersey. My official title is Senior Software Engineer, which is a fancy title for Computer Programmer, (but it sounds impressive, doesn't it?).
I am currently a member of The Association for Computing Machinery (ACM). And a member of The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). Well, not actually a member of IEEE, but more specifically a member of The IEEE Computer Society. Check out the IEEE Computer Society Publication Catalog.
I'm the Secretary of my local synagogue, the Van Cortlandt Jewish Center.
