Newly released by Delos is a stunning coupling of Sibelius' 2nd and 7th Symphonies with James DePreist and the Oregon Symphony. Like all the recordings in the series, it was made possible by the Gretchen Brooks Recording Fund. The recording was produced by Michael Fine and engineered by Jeff Mee. Our next recording with James DePreist will be the Mahler Symphony 5 with the London Symphony Orchestra in Abbey Road Studios. The recording will follow Maestro DePreist's debut with orchestra at the Barbican Center in April 2005. Sibelius
Michael Fine is spending part of this concert season as Artistic Consultant to the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra. Fine's role will be to assist the orchestra in attracting top guest conductors and soloists, help increase the orchestra's profile, as well as plan their 2006/7 season.
Renowned actor Maximilian Schell recorded James Forsyth's narration for Franz Waxman's oratorio Joshua in Vienna recently. It will be a key part of the world premiere recording of the work with James Sedares and the Prague Philharmonia. Baritone Rodney Gilfry sings both Joshua and Moses. Michael Fine produced the music sessions in the Rudolfinum's Dvorak Hall as well as the narration recording in Vienna. both with with balance engineer Wolf-Dieter Karwatky. Joshua
Violinist Brian Lewis recorded Leonard Bernstein's Serenade along with the world premiere of Michael McLean's Elements this September in Abbey Road Studios. Hugh Wolff will conduct the London Symphony Orchestra. Michael Fine produced the sessions along with Wolf-Dieter Karwatky, balance engineer. The recording will be mixed in December. In April 2005, Delos International will release the world premiere recording of Luis Bacalov's Triple Concerto for Soprano, Bandoneon, Piano and Orchestra. Gisele Ben-Dor led the Santa Barbara Symphony Orchestra with the composer at the keyboard, soprano Virginia Tola, and Juanjo Mosalini, bandoneon. Also on the recording is the premiere recording of Piazolla's Tres Movimientos Sinfonicos, Piazolla's Oblivion and the theme from Bacalov's Il Postino. Violinist Burkhard Hoffmann and pianist Alan Newcombe completed their recording of three 20th century British sonatas when they recorded the Ireland 2nd Sonata at Hamburg's Friederich Ebert Halle. Michael Fine produced the session with engineer Wolf-Dieter Karwatky. Already recorded are the Elgar Sonata and the 2nd Delius Sonata.
Michael chats with Sr. Joan McCusker and Sr. Trish Scalese at sessions for With One Voice, featuring the superb musical talents of over sixty Sisters from the Congregation of Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, based in Scranton, PA. Sr. Joan, a Professor of Music at Marywood University was conductor and music director for the project, while Sr. Trish can be heard as soloist in two of her own compositions. Delos released the Persian Trilogy by composer Behzad Ranjbaran this past October. JoAnn Falletta leads the London Symphony Orchestra in Michael Fine's production, Jonathan Allan engineer with the Abbey Road Remote. Michael Fine, clarinet, along with cellist Gerald Kagan and pianist Susan Kagan performed a program of trios at WVIA's studios in Scranton, PA this past August . The program featured music by Beethoven and his two students Ferdinand Ries and the Archduke Rudolf and will be broadcast next year by the public radio station.
