T'ai Chi Ch'uan

T'ai-chi Ch'uan is a system of physical exercise based on the principles of effortless breathing, rythmic movement and weight equilibrium. It is also designed to serve as a method of self defense. As such it can be practised by an individual alone in a limited space, though it is at it's best outdoors with others.

For me the attraction is that it is a philosophy, that through mild physical exercise with mental discipline, enables one to become fundamentally healthy and virtually as a bonus, develop self defense skills. It can be done with a teacher, with others or alone and one will never, ever finish learning one or other aspect of it. It will never therefore become boring, like all the conventional systems of exercise. Because it is mild, one can continue doing it into one's old age and will probably reach that old age, because one has done it and be fit enough to enjoy it !
