ex-London Brighton & South Coast Railway "Terrier" 0-6-0 tank loco

Terrier "Gipsy Hill" in LBSCR Stroudley Yellow livery

The prototype

Built from 1872 onwards, several Terriers still exist. After service on suburban passenger trains, many were sold to minor railways, with two ending up in the hands of the Great Western Railway. Those that were retained after the electrification of south London passenger services passed to the Southern Railway, under whose ownership they were painted olive green or black. Finally some even passed to British Railways in 1948, some examples being painted with the full lined black livery. A number worked on the Isle of Wight and the Hayling Island branch, for which the coal bunkers were extended.

The model

The Longhedge model has a laser cut steel chassis, cast iron driving wheels, cast nickel coupling rods. The chassis is fully compensated to allow smooth running over uneven track and electrical pickup is through all 6 wheels. Current is passed to the motor via a split axle arrangement which avoids the use of wiper contacts which can become dirty and wear on external lines. The body is largely cast in resin, with lost wax fittings for chimney, safety valves, lamp irons and buffer stocks.

Longhedge can supply the locomotive in any of the liveries carried by the class, or to your own requirements.

Coaches to run with this locomotive are also available
