PIMA COLONIA, YECORA, SONORA, MEXICO After more than two years since their water problem was first brought to our attention, the Pima colonia now has a dependable source of potable water. Our thanks goes to the Pennsylvania WFP for their generous donation and to Ezequiel Lopez of FAI-Sonora for acting as project manager. The project involved laying over 600 feet of pipe to connect the Pima storage tank to the town of Yecora water system. With funds left over from that, lines were laid to each house and taps were installed in concrete. A couple of houses across the main highway were also connected. Ezequiel Lopez is now considering a project of dry latrines (Clivus Multrum). The Pimas have been busy making adobe bricks to build a more permanent church to replace the tiny wood cabin they are using now. Future possible project: re-plastering the storage tank to seal leaks and replacing the tank roof with a well-sealed cover. The Pimas are very happy and want to convey their thanks.
EL QUIPOR, SONORA, MEXICO
AZWFP is currently developing a project proposal to resolve the
continiuing water supply problem for this village. A recent visit to the
site by Larry Hanson and Kevin Snyder identified possible solutions.
The main line to the spring is broken at both river crossings, so the
villagers are using river water for washing and water from a small seep
near the village for drinking.
TESOPACO, SONORA, MEXICO This project was proposed and completed over a year-and-half ago. A pump and pipeline for the technical school was installed and is now fully operational. AZWFP Volunteer Abby Myers obtained the donated materials and Patricio Morel, a Washington, D.C. engineer, provided project management, leading to a speedy completion of the project. A new project proposal may be developed to automate the pump controls and install protected wiring for the booster pump as it presents a hazard for the school children.
