back to homepage

The society was launched officially in October 1974 and our aims are the following -

  • TO STIMULATE PUBLIC INTEREST IN THE BEAUTY, HISTORY AND CHARACTER OF THE TOWN AND ITS SURROUNDINGS

  • TO ENCOURAGE THE PRESERVATION, DEVELOPMENT AND IMPROVEMENT OF FEATURES OF GENERAL PUBLIC AMENITY OR HISTORIC INTEREST
  • TO ENCOURAGE HIGH STANDARDS OF ARCHITECTURE AND TOWN PLANNING

At present the society has 145 members. Our events include summer walkabouts (including a family mystery walkabout), winter talks, outings, an annual dinner, bus trips to places of interest outside Fife and school quizzes (both Primary and Secondary).

We also play a part in Doors Open Day every year..

We encourage the public to bring old photographs, maps, paintings etc. along to our EXCHANGE OF INFORMATION afternoons.

Many memories of the town, its people and events are recalled over biscuits and tea.

We usually have slide shows running and occasionally videos about Fife and Kirkcaldy.

Mrs Watters addresses the audience at the1997 school quiz held in Balwearie High School

Dunnikier Primary won the quiz and each member of the team received a certificate and medal. A shield was also presented with the name of the school inscribed on it. Local shops provided prizes in the form of gift certificates.

We like to see young people taking an interest in our events.
