Books

Database Magic with Ken North (Prentice Hall PTR) discusses server-side programming of database applications. It explains ODBC, OLE DB, Java database programming, and Java-enabled databases. It also explains logic in the database (constraints, functions, stored procedures) for IBM DB2, Informix Dynamic Server, Sybase Adaptive Server, and Microsoft SQL Server. Published December 1998.

"ODBC, JDBC, and the Quest for a Black Box" is an excerpt from Database Magic with Ken North that ran in Dr. Dobb's Sourcebook. The excerpt has been translated to Chinese and German. To read the Chinese version, you must load the Big5 fonts, or click the button at the top of the Chinese version to download a Big5 viewer.

Read a review of Database Magic with Ken North. "Very informative" said John Zukowski of About.com's Focus on Java. Click here to read a sample chapter.

Ken wrote Windows Multi-DBMS Programming (Wiley Computer Books), a book about database programming using Windows clients, SQL servers, and a variety of languages and tools.
