No, not that Jerry Siegel!

The co-creator of SupermanTM spelled his name the same way I do. He died on January 28, 1996. After starting in electrical engineering, I discovered that I liked software gadgets even better than hardware gadgets. I served as a programmer in the Army during the Cold War, then went back to school and got a B.S. in Information Systems Management at the University of Maryland. I later passed the exam to become a Certified Data Processor (now known as Certified Computer Professional). After twenty years of mainframe work in COBOL, IMS, and DB2, I retooled myself to Client/Server, specializing in PowerBuilder. I worked for ManorCare Health Services until it merged with HCR to become the second largest nursing home company in the country. The merger eliminated my job, as the headquarters moved to Toledo, Ohio. I was fortunate enough to find a position at Data Sciences, Inc., which creates the software that runs the advertising and circulation of newspapers such as the Washington Post and the New York Times. My outside interests are skiing, golf, bicycling, investing, and ham radio.

"Links are content."

- Tim Berners-Lee (creator of the World Wide Web), speaking at Software Development East '96

Since this Home Page started as homework for an HTML class (Webscaping at ZiffNet University ), I thought it would be appropriate to include some links to sites I have found useful in learning to produce Web pages:

Web Authoring Guides

Web Graphics Sites

Background/Text Color Samples - Requires NN 3 or IE 3  If this text has a yellow background, you should be able to see the color samples
An alternative is the RGB Triplet Color chart, a GIF which shows 256 colors with their associated hex codes.

Legal Issues on the Web (produced by one of my classmates)

"There are some Cobol programmers who are brain dead, who are just counting the days until their retirement. The people on the other end of the bell curve, the upper 10%, are learning Java on their own".
     - Edward Yourdon, interview in Software Magazine, January 1997
