New  innovations, which the Department is keen to pursue include:

  • Open access COPD spirometry for GPs


  • Nebuliser database

The unit provides a comprehensive pulmonary function service  with over 4500 tests completed each year.

All staff are fully qualified and have actively pursued further education in their particular fields of interest which include Polysomnography and Cardio-pulmonary Exercise testing.

The department carries out pre-operative cardio-thoracic surgical assessments,                                        6 minute walking tests, asthma exercise tests for asthma and shuttle walking tests as part of the  pulmonary rehabilitation programme.
