Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation

Mel Rosebury

Clinical Specialist in

Respiratory care

Having qualified in 1986 and then chosen to specialise in respiratory care I gained a postgraduate diploma in health studies, which allowed for my promotion to clinical specialist in respiratory care.

The service has developed since 1996 under the guidance of Dr.  O'Reilly to develop a protocol for the use of non-invasive positive pressure ventilation on the general medical  unit. Patients in ventilatory failure have been successfully managed on open medical and admission wards due to close co-operation with  a skilled and enthusiastic nursing team.

This service also includes:

  • 24 hour on-call support.

  • Active involvement in the establishment and development of the pulmonary rehabilitation programme.

I developed a screening programme at the clinic at which eachnew patient is offered:

  • A symptom questionnaire

  • Heaf testing in which unfortunately there is a high default rate for reading the test.

  • Direct referral by myself to a chest physician and radiography.

  • BCG vaccination in the chest clinic.
