Faithful City Morris

Typical FC Morris man  For those of you who haven't got images switched on, our kit is a blue tabard with the black pears of Worcester on the front and the black pear tree on the back. Black britches, white shirts and socks and black shoes are de-rigour. We wear black top-hats (if we can get one - try finding a size seven and a half!). Those of us who have reached a certain level of dance can wear the black and green ribbon round the hat - I pass over just exactly what is the metric for determining this level.

The chequered stick is a mixture of artistic licence and an artefact of my software.

Faithful City is a revival side, now in its 31st year. We are loosely based on Worcester from whence comes our name. The motto of Worcester is: Civitas fidelis in bello et pacem , which, as all you classical scholars know, means: The city, faithful both in war and peace . It earned this motto by managing to be on the losing side three times during the Civil Wars.

We dance a variety of Cotswold dances, some Lichfield and the Worcestershire border dances. In addition, we have a rapper side with some claim to fame; we believe it to be the oldest in the country , i.e. the average age of the rapper side is 53 (or is it 54).

We visit some pub most Wednesdays during the summer, with various other bookings and jollies; see: FFCM '00 programme. During the winter, we try to repair the shortcomings of our summer performances by practising every Wednesday at the Talbot at Knightwick (on the Worcester-Hereford road) This is an excellent hostelry with its own beer at £1.25 a pint [eat your hearts out, you Londoners!]
