The IAC provides expert advice, through its members, on all cine, video and AV matters. No query is too simple or too complicated. Advice on scripting, shooting, sound, lighting, animation, presentation, and technical matters is available through our head office at Epsom. There is also a special Music Advisory Service to help amateurs who have difficulty in choosing the right music for their sound tracks.
The IAC Film and Video Library is the largest and most
comprehensive collection in the world of outstanding amateur movies
and archive material. It includes major award winning titles from the
IAC International, Ten Best, BAVA and Film Making competitions, and
it is growing every year. Entertaining and informative programmes of
films and videos may be hired by individuals or clubs, and the
library is also a valuble source of information for students.
A prioratised list of films has been made for the transfer onto
digital BetaCam and further to SVHS and VHS for working
copies.
Taped talks, some illustrated with slides or film / video, are
also available. They are designed primarily for experienced workers
or for clubs situated in far flung locations who have difficulty in
booking guest speakers.
The IAC is hoping soon to have available for hire a series of videos
designed as a filming course showing all aspects of the film-makers
art.
A special service of immense value to bona fide amateurs is the IAC's unique copyright clearance scheme, in conjunction with the British Phonographic Industry and Mechanical Copyright Protection Society, for music and recordings used for film and video sound tracks and for tape / slide presentations. Most music is covered by stringent copyright laws, in regard to recording and performance, and there are stiff penalties for infringement. But thanks for the persistence and hard work of the IAC's negotiators, inexpensive licences can be obtained from the IAC office at Epsom, giving the right to copy commercial recordings bought from retail outlets. A special leaflet, written by the IAC copyright expert, is available free of charge from Epsom.
Recordings of music composed especially for film, radio and Television which are not available through the usual retail channels, can be obtained through the IAC head office at Epsom. A Comprehensive catalogue is available.
The IAC International Film and Video competition, held annually, is one of the oldest in the world. It is open to all bona fide amateurs, individuals, clubs and groups and attracts entries from all over the world. The standard of judging is high and the IAC International Awards are held in high esteem. The final panel of judges usually includes one or more professional film makers or critics. Award-winning movies are eligible for selection to represent Great Britain in competitions overseas. Copies are taken in to the IAC Film Library and therefore become available for hire.
Movie 2000 being held at the Palace Hotel, Buxton, England.
This is your chance to see the best of amateur film and video work
from all over the world.
What's on show ranges from professional quality 16mm film often
made by film students to home video. Comedy, drama,
documentary, whimsical and moving ... there is always lots to enjoy.
And the company is good too! IAC - The Film and Video
Institute organizes a huge international competition each year.
Last date for entries is 17th January 2000.
An autumn convention is held in a different part of Britain
each year, in October / November. It usually includes a guest
speaker, a popular inter-regional battle for the Mermaid Trophy, a
newly introduced 1 minute competition both awarded by audience vote,
the National AGM of the IAC, social events and visits to places of
interest.
