GENEALOGY

I was born and raised in Darwen and have been involved with family history research for over 20 years. During this time I have developed expertise with the genealogical records and sources, particularly with the nonconformist records.

My main interests are the Duxbury family from the Darwen & Blackburn area and the Snape family from the Darwen/Withnell area of Lancashire. I have researched the Duxbury line back to the 1600s and the Snape family back to the 1790s.

In addition I am also interested in the history of nonconformity in Darwen and the Manor of Over Darwen as well as the town of Darwen.

I have a large database of baptisms (16,000+); marriages (11,000+); burials (6,500+) and MIs (over 2,000). For details see my article in the Family Tree Magazine (October 1994 issue).

The Lancashire Family History & Heraldry Society have recently published one of my books "The Diary of Rev Peter Walkden & Early Nonconformist Baptisms" The diary was kept by Rev Peter Walkden and covers the period 1725, 1729-30. It paints a vivid picture of what life was like in rural Lancashire over 250 years ago. The baptism registers are those kept by Peter Walkden from 1709 to 1769 and his son, Rev Henry Walkden from 1747 to 1793. They contain mainly Lancashire and North Cheshire baptisms.
