Today Mir sent sequences of pictures taken out of the window. They show the movement of the spacecraft across a view of the earth below. The pictures in each sequence are 2 minutes apart.
The two above were received from approximately 1857 to 1904 utc. The next shot was of total darkness.

The night sky image appears several times over the last two days. It's the image of the night sky from the camera pointed out of the window of the Priorda module. If the spacecraft is in darkness then the automatic system just sends pictures of darkness with a few blobs on it.
