Gundogs
- The Kennel Club originally placed this breed as Spanish Water Dogs in the gundog group (Imported) in 1992. To the Partnership's dismay a decision was made by the Kennel Club that as from January 2000 this breed must go into the working group . We are happy to report that decision was changed and this breed will now stay in the Gundog group.
- The Canagua Partnership hopes this breed will be placed in the Hunt, Point, Retrieve section of the Gundog group. They have good noses and some hunt at speed; they point game (some very strongly) and they are extremely keen retrievers. Have a look at the following pictures and see if you think enough has been done to prove that Spanish Water Dogs deserve their place in the gundog group.
- Five of our dogs hold German Wirehaired Pointer Club Natural Ability certificates - Azor, Lydia, Pedro, Rayo and Seve.
- Some of the dogs have taken part in HPR gundog working tests (not for competition) and we are very proud of the results. Many people at first wondered what these woolly dogs would do but their mirth was silenced when they saw them work.
- In Spain the Perro de Agua Espanol is sometimes used for for hunting rabbits because of its courage and daring in penetrating thickets. They are also successful at duck hunting on lakes and rivers. Some have been used as deer hunters. It is said that people have been unable to find a better dog to cover all types of terrain with his mind always on his quarry.
- Daisy keeping an eye on her retrieve.
- Benita can carry a large rabbit.
- This is an agile breed which will stop at nothing to retrieve their quarry as Seve shows.
- Seve takes part regularly in pheasant and pigeon shoots.
- They see no point in moving slowly so retrieves are normally at full speed.

as well as a smaller bird.
- As their name suggests this breed excel in the water. Sometimes it is hard to keep them on dry land.
- This breed can also retrieve a goose.
- Lydia retrieving a dummy from the water.
- Even the puppies are keen retrievers !
- Finally here are the dogs who were enjoying themselves at this years Game Fair, competing in the gundog events.
