RECENT SKETCHES AND OBSERVATIONS

JUPITER ALMOST GOT STUNG!!!
On 1 April 2003, I went out and looked at the Beehive (M44) and Jupiter nearby.  It was so lovely, since you could see Jupiter's moons.  It almost looked surreal having al these celestial objects so close together in the sky!

GALAXIES, FAR, FAR AWAY!!!
On another night I looked at galaxies M81 and M82 in Ursa Major.  They are also two objects that are visible in the same field of view.  M81 looks more like a small cloud, while M82 looks more linear.  M81 is a spiral galaxy and M82 is called an irregular.

SATURN, A DEAD RINGER!!!
On another night I attempted to videotape Saturn through my telescope.  The rings were clearly visible.  Every time I look at it, it is hard to believe there is such an object in the sky.

TOO HOT TO HANDLE!!!
Even though we are coming down from solar maximum in the number of sunspots, there has still been quite a bit of activity on the sun lately.  Here is a massive sunspot group that emitted solar flares on April 30th.
