Blue Penguin
( eudyptula minor )

Blue penguins (Korora) the
smallest of the worlds penguins and are frequently seen resting in their nest burrows.
Usually feed within 5 metres of the surface, but some have been recorded at 70 metres.
When ashore at night they can be very noisy. The blue penguin is also unique, for
it is the smallest of all the penguin species with a body length of approximately 30 cm.
They are reasonably common and nest at several places on the Otago Peninsula and are
abundant around Taiaroa headland. Guests on ELM WILDLIFE TOURS are usually suprised to
find that the small bird they are viewing is an adult.
