1. On Monday April 6, 1998 between 5:15 and 5:25 p.m. come to Cambridge City Hall. Join us to celebrate all the people who have helped our trees in the last year since the terrible blizzard. This is a photo opportunity with Larry Acosta, our City Arborist, Urban Forestry, members of City departments and the City Councillors and State Representatives. Please invite all those you know who have helped support trees and who care about trees. Cambridge Tree Project received a grant for $5750 managed by the Commonwealth Department of Environmental Management from federal funds from the USDA Forest Service.

The purpose of the grant is for tree awareness and education and for tree ordinance development. We have just recently received approval to spend monies and are now applying for funding for the next fiscal year. Our application is supported by Commissioner of Public Works Ralph Dunphy and Arborist Larry Acosta. The photo opportunity will be brief so as not to conflict with the 5:30 start time of the Council.

2. Please support our application for a grant by replying to this email indicating your support.

3. Do you know any tree-friendly parking lot and sidewalk surfaces and construction techniques? We are collecting this information this week particularly. The Cambridge Growth Management Advisory Committee is interested in such methods.

4. We are looking for people to help with ordinance collection and analysis, join green teams to care for trees in each neighborhood, participate in a telephone tree to let those who don’t have email know about our events, writing, education, and join tree walks in each neighborhood.

5. Time to plant trees. Phillip Rodbell of MA Environmental Management Dept. urges you to pick your tree out early before you only get leftovers. Client Tree Program Appications for street trees are available at 147 Hampshire St. or on the web at Cambridge Tree Project temporary draft web site at http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/DoanePerry/homepage.htm
