Alice Wolf, Arborist Larry Acosta and Park Superintendent Greg Garber for their kind words and gracious reception. Thanks to the behind the scenes work of the mayor’s staff and the many phonecalls of Ann Bolger to notify parents. The program will be rebroadcast on Friday at 10 am. Photographer Elizabeth Bettenhausen volunteered her time so that the children can have pictures of the event and we can have press releases.
3. The Book of Cambridge Street Trees is being reprinted now, due to the number of requests. A loan was made and the they will be available for a donation. Please reply if you wish a copy. Sasha Mandel made an eloquent plea and so many others requested it that it didn’t make sense to wait for corrections and additions. The book is being scanned in and published on the Summerbridge WebPages (not up yet) http://www.shs.org/Students.html.
6.ARBOR DAYS: In conjunction with the Science department of the School system, we are planning Arbor Days in all the schools. The parent liaisons and principals are being asked for three choices to participate, probably the first two weeks of May because of the CATand MCAS testing schedule. We need people to help at every school. If you are willing to do something for Arbor Day events and tree education the schools, reply to this message. We need help letting people know about the Tree Scavenger Hunt and working with classes of kids to identify trees in their neighborhood. Prilla Bracket Smith is interested in doing a tree and art project with Fletcher, Maynard and King schools.
2. TREE SCAVENGER HUNT: Join us! Open to all ages! is at the end of this bulletin if you have recommendations. Entries due at Arbor Days in local schools; proposed entries for biggest trees in each category due April 16 to 1657 Cambridge St. #3 02138.

4. To support trees and greenspace in backyards of Cambridge, City Councillors are working on a different version for an ordinance. Kathy Born and Anthony Gallucio drafted the initial resolution. Many of us have been involved in reviewing this ordinance. Please call your councillor to urge passage. For more information see: http://www.ci.cambridge.ma.us/~CDD/CommPlan/Zoning/
5. Summerbridge 8th and 9th grade students are willing to work with elementary schools in Cambridge to speak and teach them about trees. They have been learning about trees for a year, worked with Ranger Jean Rogers on mulching trees at Fresh Pond, and with Chris Dewart identifying and labeling trees in the park near the high school and main library. They hope to work with all the schools in preparation for Arbor Days. Arborist Larry Acosta plans to do an Arbor Day event in each of the schools this year on different days. Arbor Day does occur on different days in different states-New Orleans celebrates it in January.
