P.V. Baker

Designed towards the end of the 1940s, by LBSC, in The Model Engineer magazine. Originally an 0-6-0 tank engine, the example in my posession is actually a tender locomotive. It was built by a group of members of the Staines society and was their primary form of motive power at fetes etc.

After many years, she was retired to the garden shed. Unfortunately, the boiler had been left full of water and had frozen, splitting most of the solder seams.

I undertook to build a new boiler and get her running again. All told the project lasted about two years and she ran for the first time on the club track during the summer of 1999.

Here are some photographic highlights:

Just to prove it! 200 psi on the clock for 20 minutes.

A closeup of the smokebox pipework. Not alot of room!

Steam up at last!

Steam up on the test track - with the safety valves just bubbling.
