Travel Vaccinations


We have recently been designated a department of Health Yellow Fever Vaccination Centre. We are therefore now able to provide a full travel vaccination service to patients registered at the surgery and elsewhere.

Patients should be aware that some vaccinations are not available free on the NHS. Some vaccines we are able to give free only to patients registered with the surgery. Vaccination fees are as follows:

Vaccine recommendations

Tetanus

Recommended for travel everywhere including the UK, Europe, N.America. Boosters last 10 years

Polio

Oral vaccine recommended for travel everywhere including the UK, Europe, Booster doses last 10 years. The Americas are now polio free and boosters may be omitted for short term travellers.

Hepatitis A

Recommended for travel anywhere except the E.C. North America or Australia/N.Zealand. Booster needed after 10 years if had full course. Full course comprises 2 vaccinations 6 months apart.

Typhoid

Single vaccination. Recomended for travel anywhere except the E.C., N.America (except Mexico) or Australia/N. Zealand. Booster required every 3 years.

Yellow Fever

Single vaccine mandatory for the following countries,

Benin, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, C.A.R., Chad, Congo,Fr.Guiana, Gabon, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Liberia, Mali, Mauritania, Niger, Rwanda, Sao Tome, Sudan, Togo.

Also recommended for the following:

Angola, Bolivia, Burundi, Columbia, Ecuador, Eq.Guinea, Ethiopia, Gambia, Guinea, Guinea Bissau, Guyana, Kenya, Nigeria, Panama, Peru, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Somalia, Surinam, Tanzania, Trinidad & Tobago, Uganda, Venezuela.

Recommended for stays > 3 months in rural areas of:

Brazil, Zambia

Rabies

Recommended for long stays >3 months in rural areas of:

Most countries outside the E.C. , North America, Carribean, Australasia , Japan, Polynesian Islands, Eastern Europe (except Russia)

Tick-borne encephalitis

Recommended for long stays > 3months in rural areas of:

Albania, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bosnia, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Estonia, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgystan, Macedonia, Moldova, Mongolia, Poland, Romania, Russia, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Tajikstan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan

Japanese Encephalitis

Recomended for long stays >3 months in rural areas of :

Bali, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Brunei, Cambodia, China, E.Timor, India, Indonesia, Japan, S. Korea, Laos, Macao, Malaysia, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan, Phillipines, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Vietnam

Meningitis A/C

Mandatory for visits to Mecca (Haji) in Saudi Arabia.

Recommended for long stays >3 months in rural areas of:

Angola, Benin, Bhutan, Brazil, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cameroon, CAR, Chad, Comores, Congo, Djibouti, Eq.Guinea, Eritrea, Ethiopiam Gabon, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea , Guinea Bissau, India, Ivory Coast, Kenya, Liberia, Malawi, Mali, Mauritania, Mongolia, Mozambique, Namibia, Nepal, Niger, Nigeria, Rwanda, Sao Tome, Saudi Arabia, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Somalia, Sudan, Tanzania, Togo, Uganda, Zambia, Zimbabwe

Tuberculosis and Diptheria

(These vaccinations have been included in the programme of baby vaccinations for decades. Booster required after 10 years for Diptheria)

Recommended for long stays in rural areas of:

Azerbaijan, Belarus, Croatia, Estonia, Georgia, Latvia, Lithuania, Moldova, Mongolia, Romania, Russia, Ukraine

Malaria Prophylaxis

Anti-malarial tablets are recommended for most tropical and sub tropical areas. Link below to the malaria page.
