Karen Hughes our respiratory nurse holds a special clinic every Wednesday at the surgery. This is for people who suffer from Asthma, COPD (Chronic Bronchitis & Emphysema) and other long term breathing problems. In the clinic she will teach you how to use your inhalers correctly to prevent your breathing becoming worse and also what to do when things go wrong. She will help you feel more in control of your breathing.
The practice nurse holds diabetic clinics twice monthly. Whether your diabetes is controlled by insulin, tablets or diet alone these clinics help us to monitor your progress and make sure none of the serious problems associated with diabetes are developing. If you are diabetic but have not attended any of these clinics we would urge you to do so as experience has shown they are invaluable in helping prevent the complications of this disease.
These days the hospital ante-natal clinic will probably only see you twice throughout your pregnancy. As soon as you are pregnant, make an appointment with the doctor who will explain what happens next. When you have been for your first scan, make an appointment to see our surgery team midwife who holds an ante-natal clinic every Friday lunchtime. In the early weeks you will not need to be seen very frequently but you should attend more regularly as your pregnancy progresses. The ante-natal clinic helps both us and you to be sure that all is well with you and your baby.
The romantically titled Wart Clinic is held on the second Thursday of the month. We treat persistant warts and verrucas with liquid nitrogen to freeze them away. If you have any troublesome warts, ask the receptionists to put your name on the list for the next clinic.
Whilst we do not hold a specific travel clinic, you may make an appointment to see the practice nurse for your vaccinations. We have recently been appointed a Yellow Fever centre and can give courses of vaccinations to patients who are not registered. Please note that for some vaccinations there is a charge (since the surgery does not have the cost of the vaccines refunded by the Health Authority) [ Yellow Fever, Rabies, Encephalitis, Meningitis}. For patients registered elsewhere we also make a charge for other vaccinations. [Typhoid, Hepatitis A & B , polio, Tetanus]
We now have a benefits adviser holding an advice clinic weekly in the surgery. If you are not sure about where you stand with the bewildering range of benefits available, this clinic will be for you.
