Devonshire House Surgery is a small 2 partner practice in Birkenhead run in the traditonal "family doctor" style.
It is situated near to Tranmere Rovers football ground in Birkenhead on the corner of Borough Road and South Road
There are currently two doctors, Dr. Peter Hedges and Dr. Mark Richards. Both qualified from the University of Liverpool's prestigious Medical School in 1990 and 1992 respectively.
In addition to the core GP services, the doctors run a number of special clinics, details of which can be found elsewhere on this site. We can offer confidential family planning, contraceptive and maternity services to not only our own patients but also those registered elsewhere. We are also a nominated "Yellow Fever Centre" by the Department of Health and so can offer vaccination against this and many other diseases to registered and non-registered patients.

We can also treat patients who are in the area for less than 3 months as temporary residents. Temporary residents should bring along evidence of their current medications when attending. We will not prescribe addictive drugs such as benzodiazepines to temporary residents without strong evidence of their current use. Temporary residents needing prescriptions for methadone should attend the regional Drugs Centre at St. Catherine's Hospital for their prescription.
To register with the practice you will need to fill in a registration form which is available from reception. If you would like us to send you a registration pack, you may write or E-mail us with your name and address.
On receiving your completed registration form we will request your medical records from the Health Authority and will invite you to attend a registration medical. This helps us to get to know you and your current medical problems and also gives you an opportunity to have a quick check-up
