Lakes Vision
On Tuesday 25th August 1998, as I was lying sick at my grandfather's house, I saw (in my mind) a vision in which I was flying, as if in a light aircraft, over a land covered in many lakes in every direction. There were occasional dry (desert) areas and sometimes a few much larger lakes. This went on for some considerable time. Then suddenly the coastline appeared ahead stretching straight as far as the eye could see to the right and left with the sparkling sea spreading forward to the horizon.
The words of Isaiah 11:9 and Habakkuk 2:14 were impressed upon me:
The earth shall be filled with knowledge of (the glory of) the Lord,
as the waters cover the sea.
As I sought the Lord concerning the meaning of this vision, I believe that He said that it referred to the church in England and that the lakes represented the many places of Spiritual refreshing, renewal and revival in this country. It is already hard to go anywhere in this nation that is far from such places. Although some larger 'lakes' will appear from time to time, I believe there will be no signs of significant increase in what is happening for some few years. Rather, when the time is ripe, the change will be very sudden as the knowledge of (the glory of) YHWH quickly fills this land. [[I asked the Lord whether we would recognize when this time was near at hand, and I believe that He said that we would be able to smell the sea as we drew near the coast, and that prophetic people with the eyes of eagles would see it earlier.]] In the meantime the growth would be 'hidden' (seed in soil growth), hearts being prepared to carry the weight of His glory, to harvest and to disciple, rather than there being a large increase in signs and wonders or in people being saved. Many heart-changes must occur during this time of preparation, one important one being that the church must be set free from the cultural stronghold of materialism, something few of us are ready to pray for yet because we are fearful of the cost of letting go of our false security.
I believe the Lord said concerning this vision that "this is the landscape, the road towards the full revelation of God's glory in the church, and hence in the earth".
As Paul says in 1 Thessalonians 5:21, "Test everything. Hold on to the good."
Aspects of this vision seem to agree with other well-known prophetic words. The time-scale is concordant with the Lord's word to Mike Bickle in Cairo in September 1982, "I will change the understanding and expression of Christianity in the earth in one generation" (see Mike Bickle, Growing in the Prophetic, Kingsway, pp. 30-34), and with David Obbard's vision in 1954 concerning a period of twenty years beginning after forty years during which "the church would be raised from its lifeless state to that of an exceeding great army" (see Dave Roberts, The 'Toronto' Blessing
, Kingsway, pp. 27-28). The suddenness is in harmony with the well-known prophecy received concerning Princess Diana's death, "And this nation, as fast as that mourning went through the nation, joy will go through the nation". Noel Alexander has said something similar about the Lord coming suddenly to this nation, referring to Acts 2:2, "Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting." and Malachi 3:1, "See, I will send My messenger, who will prepare the way before Me. Then suddenly the Lord you are seeking will come to His temple.".
