Guide badge10th Hitchin (Christchurch) Brownie Pack

Hi this is 10th Hitchin Brownies.

Welcome to our Web page. Please try our Brownie quiz, and have a look at our greetings page for Thinking Day. We are just one of the Guide and Scout units at Christchurch in Hitchin.

We love cooking (and eating) and going on Pack Holiday - because we don't always get egg for breakfast and hot chocolate for a drink before bed (aren't parents mean! - Ed.). When we get enroled we use a mirror for a pond and decorate it with plants and Sixer says "Twist me and turn me and show me the elf, I looked in the pool and there saw myself." Then they are asked the Promise and Law, they shake hands with the Leaders and get the badge.

Hope you read it, goodbye.

Our favourite games

Ladders

First the Pack Leader gives everybody a number. Then everyone has to sit down with their legs stretched out in front of them. They partner up and sit with their feet together. Everyone lines up, but sitting down, still with their feet together. Somebody who's not playing calls out two numbers. The two people stand up and run round the others, then jump over all of their legs back to their places.

My best game at Brownies is ladders. What you do is:

  1. Find a partner
  2. Sit opposite them with your legs out
  3. With your partner sit in a straight line to make the ladder
  4. Number each couple
  5. When your number is called out, you race your partner down the ladder and up the outside until you are back in your place
  6. The team with the most points wins

Fishes in the sea

One of our best games is fishes in the sea. What you do is you get into different groups and you are named. Then you set up a circle of chairs leaving a space at one side, about a metre. Then someone calls one, two or three of the group names and they run round. If the person wants to they can shout "Tide turn!", and you go the other way, or "Sea's calm!", and you walk, or "Sea's rough!", and you run, but someone has taken one or two seats, and then they shout "Fisherman's coming!", and everyone runs the same way back through a gap and onto a seat, but some haven't got a seat so they are out.

First you get some chairs and put them in a circle with a space so that people get in and out. Everyone sits on a chair and the Leader gives everyone a fish name, like cod, haddock, trout, plaice, etc. When the Leader calls out your fish name you walk around the circle of chairs clockwise. If she says "Tide turns!", you walk the other way. If the Leader says "Sea is rough!", you run. If the Leader says "Sea is calm", you keep walking. If the Leader says "All fishes in the sea!", everybody walks/runs around the circle of chairs. If she says "Fishermen coming!", everyone has to try to run inside the circle and sit down, but someone or a few people won't have a chair because the Leader would have taken away some of the chairs.
