24 page booklet. Total
playing time 59:16 Produced by Peter Schekeryk, Melanie and Beau-Jarred Schekeryk. Recorded in LA & Nashville, TN, 2002. All Music and Lyrics written by Melanie Safka, except I Never Had A Clue by Melanie Safka and Ken Lavoie. Published by Two Story Publishing (ASCAP) Two years ago, there were a number of e-mails from
frustrated Melanie fans
who were polled for their choice of songs, heard at Melanie's concerts, but
never released, a good few made their way to this new CD recorded during the
first quarter of 2002. This wonderful CD contains a perfect choice of Melanie
songs, brilliantly performed and beautifully recorded, that goes a long way
in patching the holes in Melanie's released repertoire, but also includes
some very recent compositions with "The Punishment Fits The
Crime", "It Hurts When Love
is Deep" and "Smile". The excellent musical arrangements are very
complimentary to Melanie's bright and clear vocals throughout the CD, it's
impossible to pick a favourite from the fifteen songs; for most of which, the
vocals were recorded with just one take - each done, in all respects,
superbly. Victim of the Moon is unmistakably Melanie! You like good
music - you will love this CD. Melanie's 21-year-old son, Beau-Jarred Schekeryk,
took a primary role with his MIDI guitar work providing most of the cheerful
upbeat accompaniment; he also co-produced the CD alongside Melanie and Peter. "You Can Find Anything Here" was written
towards the end of 2000, inspired by a TV Commercial that sounded like
Melanie, around the same time, the opening track, "And We Fall",
was written for (and possibly about) her eldest daughter, Leilah, who gave
birth to Melanie and Peter's second granddaughter, Analisa, on March 18th,
2002, just as the mixing for this CD was being finalised. The younger of Melanie's two daughters, Jeordie,
provides additional vocals on "Jammin' Alone", "Center
of The Circle" and "Working Legend". Even if you
love the Gather Me, "Center of The Circle", you'll love this
version as well, if not more! "Brand New Key", recorded
almost as per the original, is to be used in a TV commercial. "'Til
They All Get Home" was written around the time of the Gulf war, and
re-recorded after September 11th. Throughout all of Melanie's albums, "Victim
of the Moon" sounds the most 'commercial', with at least five
singles that could be pulled from this one CD! This pre-release CD is a
must-have, the very least it will do, is put a big SMILE on your face! If you've never gone along with the masses -
people say you're different, odd (and sometimes even strange); what you wear,
do & say, the music you listen to and influences you & what touches
your soul. Melanie changes lives - brings souls together - if she does
nothing else; she will always be a special person - who knows love, pain, joy
& life. Stop for a moment and feel how privileged you are
to be part of the 'chosen few', know the real talent & skill Melanie
possesses - pause, relish this precious secret we share. Feed off her gift, her inspiration, and just
wallow in the sound of her beautiful lyrics, incredible voice and enjoy it.
She's a one off - no one can ever emulate her, keep her special, close &
precious; be blissfully happy that she's touched you and that you've
connected. |
