Hi David
Thanks for the little note. You know that's probably the same time I bought my first Melanie album too! I did get my copy of "unchained", and of course I love it! Did I tell u that I got the re-mastered version of "Candles in the rain", It sounds great!!! and there are 2 bonus tracks from "Sunset". never thought I'd see songs from that album on cd! I'm not sure if I've asked u before, but, do u know anyone that has the "B" sides and non album tracks? I would be willing to pay dearly for a taped copy of them.
And I am still searching desperately for "Affectionately" on cd. Do u know of any one with an extra copy for sale?
Thanks very much for your help
Dear David,
I got your note thanks. I'm a little disappointed that Melanie didn't get to play here. Maryland is a bit far. The place she usually plays at here just closed down so I don't know what the future holds, but if you hear anything keep me posted. Believe it or not, still no C.D. from the fan club.
Have a nice Christmas.

Hi Dave,
Thank You for keeping me informed about Melanie Safka's daughter.
We named our daughter Melanie some eight years ago and just by chance, ( or not ! ) , she loves music and is learning some piano without the aid of formal classes. God Bless Christiana Safka Bark.

David,
I am just learning the web. Actually what got me on this in the first place was for information about Melanie. I saw a web site address in the newspaper for Melanie and decided to give it a try. I'm a long time fan - since the early 70's and was happy to see her popularity in Europe. The last CD I have is Freedom Knows My Name, which my sister picked up for me at one of her concerts a few years ago in New York. My sister and I thought we were the only fans. I'm fascinated by all of this, and would love to hear from other fans.

Subject: hi Melanie!
Melanie,
Hello. I'm not quite sure that you will receive this, but I am going to try. I don't know where to start, except by saying that your music has made a difference to my life. My parents first date (20 something yrs. ago) was to one of your concerts in NYC. I have spread your music to everyone I know, and have always wanted to see you. I live in the NC mountains right now - attending my final year at WCU (Western Carolina Univ.) I was so unbelievably excited when I heard about you playing in Asheville at Be Here Now. I have always kept my eye out for you because I knew you weren't finished yet. You know, I had a feeling by what you said at your 26th Birthday at Carnegie Hall, when you said that there had been a movement toward some kind of "higher consciousness" and you spoke of the intermission, and you said maybe we'd all be a part of it, and maybe you would be too. So I think that intermission was then, and now there's a better chance than ever to meeting you.
But I'll admit, I was so disappointed that you aren't going to be able to play tonight or tomorrow night in Asheville. My friends and I even have "Melanie Hour", and we all get together and play your records, and CD's. We wrote you a letter that we were going to try to mail to your fanclub, and it said how much we were looking forward to seeing you, but when we heard it was cancelled, we never mailed it. We also were making you a vegetable-fiber hemp necklace with beads, and a rainbow patch, and a colorful "Beautiful People - Rainbow Race" poster. I wanted so badly to get to interview you for our school paper. Our musical dream right now is for you to play at our college, Western Carolina Univ., in Cullowhee, NC. 10 minutes from Cherokee, 50 miles from Asheville. We really hope that it is possible.
So anyway, I have a friend who is in Europe, and I will have to inform her of your Aids Benefit Tour in Belgium.
Well, I'm not sure what else to say - this is long enough. We all love you, Melanie, and what you stand for. God Bless You, and hope to see you play here someday. If you're interested, please contact me:

There is a big following of Mel in Basingstoke but now I've moved to Sheffield. Someone convince her to tour with the old stuff.
Thanks for the info and the site addresses. Some time back a collection of sheet music called Melanie's Good Book was released. It has since (a long time ago) been deleted so I cannot learn what I regard as the most amazing song ever written (Beautiful People). Do you (or any one else you know) where I can acquire a copy.

Subject: many thanks
Hello David, I had to write and extend a warm thank you for sharing your Melanie pages. I had so hoped to drive to Delaware this weekend to hear her perform live, but circumstances prevented me from doing so. As an alternative, I read most of the interviews and album reviews in your Chronology. It was truly a joy to have access to these articles. I grew up listening to Melanie from the age of 14. (I am 39 now.) I travelled around the East Coast at the time to see her live performances.(mostly solo guitar). I lost track of her music for almost twenty years. It is only through visits to European record stores and by surfing the Internet that I have been able to rediscover her music. So many of the newer recent tracks are infectious, even more so than in the early days. My particular favorites are "Arrow", "Detroit or Buffalo", "Undertow", "Rock n' Roll Heart", "Lovin' the Boy Next Door", " The Chosen Few" and so many others. With the extent of your Internet pages and the base of information that you have collected, I assume that we have something in common as Melanie fans. Just thought I'd write to say thanks and to wish you well. Paul Michael Brown

Subject: Melanie
Hi Dave, Sure go ahead and put it in the mailbox. Sorry I don't remember any special strap that she was useing however we used to rehearse at the Corruthers brothers house in Lakewood, Ohio so maybe they found it latter on. Also we played one show at the Cleveland Agora and maybe got left behind. She might want to ask the bass player at the time, Bob Leone if she still can locate him. He was last living in New York and we stayed in touch up untill 5 yrs ago and then I lost track of him. I don't think I ever remember hearing about a lost strap at the time so maybe it wasn't even lost there. We also played at the Youngstown Agora and the Columbus Agora as well. They were both theaters in Ohio. Good luck and if you can... tell her that I said hello if you remembers. I was living in N. Hollywood for the last 10 yrs and had heard that she was living in the area right before I moved to Nashville. Tell her that I was the guitarist that her road manager "Jim Quin" brought to her. I actually auditioned in the hotel room the day before a sold out show at the Cleveland Agora. I do remember that the local news(maybe channel 5) filmed us playing that night and aired it on television. I'd love to find out if that clip still exists! Good luck. Andy Gerome

Andy, Mentioning Cleveland Ohio, Melanie is looking for a Guitar Strap Melanie lost in Cleveland, OH approx. 15 years ago description: brown leather with hand tooled with nudes. Do you remember anything about this? How it came to get lost etc? I'm not shining any bright lights at you, just wondering :) - Dave

Hi, My name is Andy Gerome and I was a guitarist for Melanie in the early summer of 1979. I just want to say that the three months working with her on stage was a pleasure that I've rarely been able to gain since then. I can still remember her voice in the monitors as she started into the choruses of Ruby Tuesday. She was great then and though I've lost track of her and her husband through the '80's,(a wife and two children 14 and 15 yrs old) I would like to wish them greater triumph throughout the on going generations of her music and live performances. Ps. It was so long ago they might not even remember me, but I joined the group when I lived in Cleveland Ohio. We flew to N.Y. to play Carnegie Hall but the show was cancelled at the last minute. I remember staying for a few days at her home in New Jersey and Peter (her husband) trying to talk me into getting married on stage at the then talked about "NEW WOODSTOCK" He was really serious about the idea and really had me scared! He thought that it would have been great to get married in front of that many people. Maybe it would have been alot of fun! Thanks for her support and a chance to share a fond memory. ANDY GEROME
Subject: golden hits collection
David, tnx for the info. I recently stumbled onto a Melanie disc called "Golden Hits Collection" on the excelsior label (in the bargain bin section of Sam Goody's), and I was pleasantly surprised to find the quality very good. it had acoustic version of Melanie's songs (culled from previous albums i guess), so it was a pleasant surprise and a great find! the songs in the album included Brand New Key, Long Long Time, Candles In The Rain, Peace Will Come, Ruby Tuesday, What Have They Done To My Song, Babe Rainbow, and 2 or 3 more. take care -
Subject: Melanie shows
Hi David,
I got the chance to see both of Melanie's shows at the Turning Point on August 11.
She was her amazingly fabulous self.
She did some wonderful new songs and had a few copies of a new tape called "Unchained Melanie". She has re-recorded some of her older songs on this tape with a wonderful new guitarist Les Weissman.
We all had a great time and I thought you might like to know.
Take care

Subject: Melanie...rarely heard of!
Hello David!
I first heard (of) Melanie through a friend who is 20 years my senior (I am 23 at the moment). I was instantly intrigued by her voice, quality of her song-writing, and the beautiful way the songs were presented whether live, or in studio.
I had absolutely never heard of Melanie before 1991(!) and I've heard little about her since. I suppose I haven't gone to any great effort to do so, just as the subject comes up. One person I met (who was my age) had one album that she treasured which, her mother had given her.
Another instance: I was working at a university radio station and at my first broadcast I was going to play some Melanie, The fellow who was there at the time had heard of her, but preferred Joan Baez.
Some others have heard her "hit songs", but I really don't see those as appropriate eg's
Subject: All Your Hard Work
Hi.
I just spent two hours and forty five minutes reading every single item in the Chronology section - reviews, etc.
Wow! I've been buying Melanie albums since 1969, and it was a delight to read all this stuff. I appreciate all the time and effort you've put into this, and thought I ought to tell you so. (although that scathing review about the Carnegie Hall album upset me. How can people write such hurtful things with such glee? Melanie must have developed a pretty tough hide over the years.)
Here in America I don't know one other person who has ever bought or listened to Melanie records. Kind of nice to see that people have more sensible music tastes elsewhere.

Hi, Great Melanie page!!!
My name is Wayne, I've been a Melanie fan since Gather Me was released.
I've got almost everything she's ever done, but I am missing a few singles, {the B sides} I've been trying to find someone that has them, and maybe we could do a trade. If your interested e-mail me. I've also got a few articles, old and new.
I am actually after all these years, going to see Melanie, she's playing at the Winnipeg folk festival, July 11, I can hardly wait!!!
Also, I am desperately trying to find "Affectionately" on CD, I would do anything for that!!!!! It was originally released in England, Do you think you could help me? Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thank you
