  • Home, a Depeche Mode website, has a good 2 part interview with Daryl Bamonte. You can read Part 1 here and Part 2 here. Mainly deals with his time with DM, but includes some Cure content as well. Here's an excerpt:

  • What was it like working with "The Cure"? How come their line up seems to change so often, and do you think you or your brother would work with them again?

I worked for The Cure for 10 years after finishing with Depeche. It was a different experience, but it was a great learning curve, and to be fair I was given a lot of scope to use the experience that I had gained with Depeche Mode. I have no idea why the line-up changes so much, you need to ask Robert Smith that question. I can't answer for my brother, but at present I can't think of a situation that would occur where I would work with them again.

And check out Daryl's websites - Bamonte Artist Management, Daryl's MySpace, Blah Brothers MySpace.

  • Aversion has reviews up for 'The Head on the Door', 'The Top', 'Blue Sunshine', Blogcritics has a review of 'Kiss Me', Pitchfork and Pop Matters have reviews of all 4 new remastered cds, Rolling Stone has a review of 'Blue Sunshine' and here's the review of 'Head on the Door' from Spin (Sept. 06):

  • "The Cure - Head On The Door (4 stars)

In the mid-80's, the Cure had a nice little niche as the goth-pop version of the Doors, but leader Robert Smith wanted more, such as tunes, catchy choruses, and a decent drummer. He found 'em all on this 1985 poptopian tour de force, ripping the black duct tape off his bedroom windows to let the sun shine in."

  • 'A Forest' to be included on the 'John Peel - Right Time, Wrong Speed: 1977 - 1987' cd (out on Oct. 9th). Read the full story at NME.

  • (Thanks Steven and Dennis)

  • 'Friday I'm in Love' will be included on the US version of SingStar Rocks! for PS2 (out on Nov. 14th). Here's the press release from Kotaku:

  • Admit it. You want to be a Rock Star. It's OK--you're not alone. We all have a little part of us that dreams of taking the stage with the band behind us and belting out a tune at the top of our lungs so those in the rafters can hear it. Well, we can't promise you Wembley Stadium, but we have a pretty good alternative.

Introducing SingStar Rocks!, releasing this November 14, 2006 exclusively for PlayStation 2. The hip and fun, but competitive singing game features real songs and music videos from some of today's hottest artists, like Gwen Stefani's "Cool" and Fall Out Boy's "Dance, Dance." For those yearning for the days when a gallon of gas cost less than an ice cream cone, SingStar Rocks! offers favorites like Aretha Franklin's "Respect" and Marvin Gaye's "I Heard It Through the Grapevine." Among its 30 popular tracks, SingStar Rocks! offers something for everybody.

One of Europe's most celebrated party games, SingStar Rocks! features several multiplayer options, such as team-based Pass the Mic, one-on-one Battle and the classic Duet. Solo and Freestyle modes allow players to do their own soundcheck before making their singing debut in front of an audience.

In addition to the wide variety of song options, SingStar Rocks! comes bundled with two microphones. All you need is a Rock Star attitude and a PlayStation 2, and you're on your way. Who knows, maybe a show in Wembley isn't so far fetched after all!

  • Curespotting:

  • "This book (I Hate Myself and Want to Die: The 52 Most Depressing Songs You've Ever Heard) has a chapter on “Last Dance” that is hilarious."

    (Thanks Tom)

"I don’t know if this has been “spotted”, but I was watching “three dollars” on dvd last night (a quite good Australian movie, by the way) and, while telling the story of the two main characters, a flashback into the early 80’s shows them in college, very into joy division and other bands. On a table, a bag (apparently belonging to one of them, or to a friend) has “THE CURE” written all over it. The camera actually films it rather closely for some seconds. I don’t know if the director is also a Cure fan, but it surely is interesting how that particular plan was chosen.

    (Thanks Miguel)

"The intro to Close to Me was played in the movie Accepted, in the dorm room scene. Just a bit but still cool."

"as i was eating my breakfast this afternoon ( yeah, shame on me, i know), i was listening to a radio show called "De Tekstbaronnen" on dutch
radio station Radio 1... or 2, i don't know exactly ( shame on me bis ). Anyway, i was still quite sleepy, sipping a nice mok of coffe, as the intro to Killing An Arab kicked in and woke me right up with surprise! The question, as you might have guessed already, was from which band this was the debut single. The guys that had to answer first ( the show is about 2 groups of 2 people competing each other by answering questions correctly ( yes yes... ) and trying to get the highest score (well well, what a surprise... ) ) were hesitating between The Sex Pistols and The Cure, as one of 'em said something in the lines of "naaaa, it can't be The Cure, 'cause their singer actually 'sings'...". You could hear the crowd laughing, so i bet they knew better them him. Anyway, as he heard the right answer, he jokingly replied "oh, so he learned to sing afterwards?". "

    (Thanks Laurent)

    "22nd August 2006

I was watching Rove Live, when they went to a commercial break. When the show returned, they were playing a clip of the band Kisschasy singing
their song "The Do Do's and The Yeah Yeah's". Rove started singing in this ridiculous voice along with the song, and said "I was using my singing voice in the commercial break".
Michelle (Williams?) was sitting across from Rove. She laughed, saying "sounds like Robert Smith from The Cure!" Rove laughed and did the voice again... I think he may have been singing a Cure song? You couldn't understand/hear very well. He didn't sound anything like Robert, either."

    (Thanks Luffs)
