NME has picked up the story
about The Cure playing the Ultra Music Festival.

"For your info
new album by Faithless called 'To All New Arrivals' has a
track called Spiders, Crocodiles & Kryptonite Feat. Robert
Smith. Its track 2. The album is released on 27 November."
Update: "Spiders, Crocodiles & Kryptonite
contains a sample from lullaby, and a BIG one. The song
starts as a Faithless track, completely different
from lullaby, then suddenly it stops and
comes a really long and clear part of the cure's song, music+vocals.
Then this stops and the Faithless song ends again. It's
like they have put a part of the Cure's track in the middle of
their song."
After hearing the
track (thanks Andreas!), the music is a sample, but I think
(and I've been told) that Robert's vocals are new.

Apple has an awesome
profile of Roger up on their website.
(Thanks Kelly,
Andrew, Brian and Paivi)
Here's a report on Roger's
appearance at the Apple Store in New York on Nov. 3rd:
"Roger gave a wonderful
presentation at the Apple Store in New York last night.
After performing a live version of "The Truth in You" he gave
a
presentation on how he composed and mixed
his album using the Apple program Logic. He and vocalist
Erin Lang then gave us a tutorial on how
they made the video for "Treasure" using
Quick Time Pro and Final Cut Pro. They then performed
"Treasure" live with the video playing behind
them. Roger had mentioned that when
he plays songs from his solo album live, he is able to improvise,
something he couldn't do in his old band. During the question
and answer phase I asked him to elaborate (I'm paraphrasing as
best I can):
Me: So you were never able to improvise
in live Cure shows?
Roger: No. (laughs)
Me: What about during a ten-minute version
of "A Forest"?
Roger: Well, that is probably the only exception.
In the Cure if you change anything at all you'll get a "look"
from Robert. I remember once we were in a radio studio
playing "A Forest" live, and I was on a grand piano. I was
really getting into it and Robert gave me "the look" so I stopped.
Afterwards Robert came up to me and said, "Why did you stop what
you were doing? It was brilliant." (laughs) It's
hard sometimes to interpret "the look".
After the show was over he was incredibly
nice to everyone who was there. He had little buttons
to pass out that read "I want to teach the world to synth."
He approached everyone who stuck around to give them a button.
Most folks seemed to be musicians interested in learning from him
rather than Cure fans like myself. He posed for a photo with
me and graciously signed my vinyl copy of Disintegration. I had
heard on this site that he was wonderful to fans, but I was still
super-impressed with how down-to-earth and authentic he was. Great
guy.

What's all this nonsense about
Robert and Ashlee Simpson?
From Perez
Hilton:
London is the best city in the world!!!!
And, we are having the most awesomest time
here!!!
Saturday night, we went to see Miz Ashlee
Simpson's final performance as Roxie Hart in Chicago, and
she definitely earned the respect of everyone in attendance.
There's no lipsynching in musical theater!
And, she sounded great.
Ass made the role of Roxie her own and the
cast and crew toasted her at a farewell reception after the
show.
In addition to her parents, Joe & Tina
Simpson, Brit Pop legend Robert Smith of The Cure also caught
Ashlee's last performance and hung out after the show.

Ashlee Simpson To Record With
The Cure Frontman?
Nov 18, 2006 - World Entertainment News
Network
Ashlee Simpson is to return to her pop singing
roots after finishing her theatre stint in Chicago - and insists
she wants The Cure's Robert Smith to help with her comeback.
Simpson, who plays Roxie Hart in the West
End show, was thrilled when her idol came to watch her in
the musical and admits she can envisage them making beautiful
music together.
She says, "Robert Smith from the Cure came
to my last show in London, and I don't know if I was more excited
about him or that it was the last show!"
"To work with Robert Smith would be an honour."
The outcome of
this one situation could finally prove beyond a shadow of
a doubt whether God exists or not. : )
"Just Like Heaven
came in at number 22 on VH1's "Top 100 songs of the 80s."
They also said pretty nice things about them, which was different."

"As I'm writing this ... "Prayers
for Rain" plays almost all the way through a scene of the
CW Show 'One Tree Hill'. Also curious to know who
the music director is because the episode
is called "I Love You But I've Chosen Darkness", Which also
is the name of an awesome Indie Rock band."

"In the newly released french
movie "Prête moi ta main" there's a reference to The
Cure.
In the beginning, hero "Luis" (actor
Alain Chabat) tells us about his youth and his first girlfriends.
During that time, we see "flashbacks"
showing what he tells by images. About
one of them, he says "it was during my Cure time" and
we can see him disguised as Robert and as background music we
can hear "Boys don't cry".
This flashback is around 2-3 minutes
long. And at the end of this flashback, we can see
him (still disguised as Robert) going to bed. On the wall
of his bedroom, there's a Cure poster from "The head on the door"
tour.

"This evening on french tv channel France
3 in the quiz show 'questions pour un champion' one
of the question was what musical style was made at the beginning
of the 80's by bands such as THE CURE, depeche Mode, Joy Division?
And the girl got it wrong..."
