  • Robert to remix Shiny Toy Guns:

  • From Live Daily

Shiny Toy Guns fans can expect the band to drop a musical "atomic bomb" in the fall, according to bassist/keyboardist Jeremy Dawson.

"The big atomic bomb that we're going to drop this fall is [the single] 'Don't Cry Out,' with an amazing new video," Dawson told LiveDaily. "There's also going to be a group of eight or nine different remixes, including those by bands like The Cure."

Dawson said he wasn't sure which song The Cure's Robert Smith was going to remix; the band is leaving it up to the alternative hero. Nevertheless, Dawson said, it's a thrill.

"It's basically unthinkable. They're a song-driven, melodic band, and it's the ultimate honor, in my opinion. They are some great people. I'm really looking forward to seeing what he wants to do with it."

    (Thanks Tempest)

  • And if you want to see how The Cure fared on the 91X lists over the years, here you go:

  • "While surfing for more eighties anecdotes I coincidently found this page...http://www.91x.com/resurrection.html. The legendary Top 91 of each year from 1983-1995 of 91x San Diego... tons of Cure songs listed..."

"Just passing on info about a cover of lovesong just heard on bbc 6 music.

BBC 6 Music has decided that Seafood's cover of 'Lovesong' (available for download June 11th) is their breakfast show featured single of the week.
They'll be running a few competitions with stuff to give away. If you haven't heard it already then tune in or hassle your favourite station to play it to you.

  • The latest rumor about the new album is that Universal has it "penciled in" for an early Oct. release. But as we've seen over the last year or so, that pencil's eraser has been used a lot.

  • According to Warner Bros., 'Love' WILL be on Amnesty International's John Lennon tribute album 'Instant Karma' / 'Make Some Noise'. I've checked Amnesty's official site, Amazon US and UK and other retail sites, and they don't have it on the track list. But the A-HA website does:

  • "this seems to be a real strange thing, as on the official A-HA page, the cover of The Cure is listed as well (maybe there is different editions?)... [A-Ha's cover is absent from the FMQB listing as well]... http://www.a-ha.com/cparticle7836-417.html"

  • The petition to bring The Cure to New Zealand got some nice coverage at Stuff.

  • 'Just Like Heaven' is included on the 'Monster New Wave Hits' compilation cd.

  • Cure covers, remixes and mash-ups:

  • "An Israeli studio called Bona-music created a great mash-up which uses the music from Lovesong and the lyrics from a very popular Israeli song called "Gray Strike" by a band called "Monica Sex". The original was a hit in the late 90s, when it appeared as the theme song for a TV show about a group of 20-somethings living in southern Tel Aviv. There is also a video showing an animated Robert heading from London to the studio in Tel Aviv.

According to Israeli media, this received authorization from both bands, and was a successful single on radio, in stores, and as ringtones. There's
another mash-up based on DM's "Enjoy the silence" with an Israeli song called "Silence".

The single is available for purchase online (though in Hebrew...) at http://www.imusic.co.il/search_results.asp?search_type=ARTIST&artist_id=948.

Luckily, someone apparently uploaded the video into youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JUzHJkFeYLo

The original Monica Sex song had obvious cure influences, it's available on myspace: http://profile.myspace.com/monicasex (under "Maka Afora" in the jukebox)"

    (Thanks Uri)

"OK Go (the treadmill video guys) cover The LoveCats, with some nice bluesy guitar. It's on the CD "Million Ways, Part 2". Heard on KCRW

"I came upon a cover of Lover Song done by Azam Ali. (She is the singer from VAS, and Niyaz) Her band Niyaz is the one that did the cover. It's posted on her my space page . www.myspace.com/azamali"

  • Curespotting:

  • "on Talk-Sport radio they curretnly have an advert saying "are you one of those men who hate going into a cemetery at night and when something jumps out at you, you think its Robert Smith of the cure but really its a flesh eating zombie"

"Jane Magazine, May 2007 issue, page 70

"Kohl, the 3,347-year-old Beauty Secret" by Erin Flaherty

"...We've all seen the bust of Nefertiti, the ancient Egyptian queen who rocked kohl eyeliner back around 1340 B.C., but I've been obsessed with the look since I saw Robert Smith sport it on MTV circa A.D. 1989...."

    (Thanks Kate)

"Cure fans on French TV channels TF1 and M6 ??! Probably : during a show presenting stories of star children who became famous too, I heard some notes of "Close To Me" and "Friday I'm In Love". And during a cooking show called "Chef, la recette", a few notes of "Never Enough".

Keren ANN, an Israeli-Dutch-French-American great singer who lives in New-York city who's about to release her 5th album, in an interview to
TGV Magazine, a free magazine available in French high speed trains, answering a question about her tracks becoming classical tracks instantly : "I'm looking for a kind of something timeless. Groups from the 80's like Cure or Depeche Mode, who were said very dated from their era, achieved to pass beyond. In the end one admit their music is timeless because songs and melodies are brilliant, the production hasn't dated that much et the texture is pleasant. The sound research is quite instinctive..."
